School choice is well established in Utah and the conversation about options for students continues each year.  Locally elected school board members and superintendents work tirelessly to respond to the unique needs of students and families within their districts.  There are currently multiple opportunities within Utah’s public schools to both challenge and engage students, and districts are always willing to examine how to expand learning opportunities.

  • In 2023, 58,296 students took at least one concurrent enrollment class.  These students earned approximately 360,000 college credits

  • Utah has 35 CTE Career Pathways including Animal and Veterinary Science, Broadcasting and Digital Media, Cybersecurity, and Engineering.

  • Over 350 Utah elementary schools are served by a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Art Specialist who works along side core content teacher to infuse art into the curriculum.

  • Six languages are taught in Dual Immersion Language Program across the state, and students have the opportunity to continue their language acquisition in middle school and high school.

  • 441,312 students received services through the Professional Outreach Program and participated in programs provided by Ballet West, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Tanner Dance, and Utah’s Shakespeare Festival.

  • Utah students have the opportunity to participate in internships and apprenticeships while in high school.

  • 251,523 students participated in Informal Science Enhancement (iSEE) activities and 252,706 participated in iSEE field trips with local partners such as the Clark Planetarium, The Leonard, Natural History Museum of Utah, and Utah’s Hogel Zoo.

  • In 2023, 68% of students taking Advanced Placement exams qualified for college credit.

  • International Baccalaureate opportunities continue to expand in Utah districts.

  • 119,286 students earned CTE skilled certificates in 2021-2022.

Utah public schools are leaders in choice.  Districts continue to support students and look for ways for them to engage in innovative learning opportunities.
